The Florida Gators will begin the Jon Sumrall era on Saturday, September 5th against the Florida Atlantic Owls at home. Kickoff for this contest will be at 7:45 p.m. ET for that game. A lot of Florida fans are looking forward to a new college football season. The Gators have not been to the college football playoffs yet in this era. Florida is looking to get back to national prominence.

A season ago, Sumrall made the playoffs with the Tulane Green Wave. If the Gators are going to surprise people and make the playoffs this season, one of the key players on the roster is junior running back Jadan Baugh. Baugh last season rushed for 1,170 yards on 220 carries and eight touchdowns, along with averaging 5.3 yards per carry. He also caught 33 passes for 210 yards receiving and two touchdowns, along with averaging 6.4 yards per reception. Baugh is 6’1″ and weighs 225 lbs.

Baugh is ready to be primed for a breakout junior season with the Gators. Florida offensive coordinator Buster Faulkner spoke with the media about Baugh’s potential heading into the 2026 college football season. Faulkner said,
“You look at Jadan; he’s built to last. Not a lot of guys are built to last, but you know, we want to be smart with him … One thing with him is you want him in the fourth quarter on your side, and we’re lucky he’s here with us.”
Baugh could potentially be one of the best running backs in the SEC this season depending on how things go. Maybe his 38 carries for 266 yards rushing and two touchdowns game against the Florida State Seminoles last season is a preview of what will come this season. In that game, he averaged 7.0 yards per carry. Florida finished with a 4-8 record last season. Baugh and other components of this football team are going to have to be better if they’re going to have a record over .500 this season here.
