BEACON – The rear brake and axle area of a tractor-trailer traveling eastbound on I-84 near exit 41 in Dutchess County Tuesday morning caught fire and when the Beacon Fire Department got to the scene in five minutes, they found the truck was transporting some 30,000 pounds of explosive munitions for the U.S. Department of Defense, Fire Chief Thomas Lucchesi said.
Firefighters quickly extinguished the fire and confirmed that it had not extended into the cargo compartment.
No injuries were reported in the incident just before 4 a.m. today (Tuesday).
Beacon firefighters were assisted at the scene by the State Police and New York State Bridge Authority personnel.
