The Trump administration plans to make stronger economic growth the centerpiece of the U.S. agenda when G20 finance ministers and central bank governors meet in North Carolina, shifting attention away from the climate-focused priorities Treasury officials associated with the Biden administration.

The U.S. Treasury Department will make economic growth its central priority at the upcoming G20 Finance Ministerial meeting, promoting tax, regulatory and spending policies that the Trump administration says are designed to strengthen investment and expand economic activity.

Finance ministers and central bank governors from leading developed and developing economies are scheduled to gather Monday and Tuesday in Asheville, North Carolina.

A Treasury official told Breitbart that the administration intends to use the international forum to emphasize policies aimed at increasing prosperity rather than focusing heavily on carbon emissions and climate change, which the official said characterized the Biden administration’s approach.

“Growth is the strongest foundation for durable prosperity and that is why promoting stronger economic growth is at the core of America’s agenda for the G20,” the official said.

“Under President [Donald] Trump, we are laser-focused on promoting a strong economy, both in the U.S. and globally,” the official added. “And the G20 is a critical forum for addressing shared challenges and opportunities in the global economy.”

Treasury officials also plan to highlight economic provisions included in the Working Families Tax Cut.

Those measures include full expensing for business investment and research and development, streamlined federal regulations and permitting procedures, and reductions in discretionary government spending.

The administration says those policies are already encouraging additional business investment.

“As a result, business investment rose roughly 12% in the first three quarters of 2025, and real GDP is growing at a 2.1% annualized rate in Q1 2026,” a Treasury official told Breitbart News.

The Asheville gathering will be the first in a series of major G20 ministerial meetings scheduled this year.

Those discussions will help establish priorities for the G20 leaders’ summit that Trump is scheduled to host in Florida in December.

The G20 brings together 19 individual countries along with the European Union and African Union.

The organization was established following the 1997-1998 Asian financial crisis as governments sought a broader international framework for strengthening global economic and financial stability.

Under the Trump administration, Treasury officials are seeking to use that forum to advance an agenda centered on expanding economic output and investment.

The department’s approach contrasts with the emphasis it says the previous administration placed on climate change and reducing carbon emissions in international economic discussions.

Instead, U.S. officials plan to point to tax incentives for investment and research, regulatory and permitting changes and lower discretionary spending as examples of policies they believe other governments can consider when pursuing stronger growth.

The administration is also framing domestic economic performance as evidence supporting that strategy, citing the increase in business investment and the 2.1% annualized real GDP growth rate recorded in the first quarter of 2026.

With Trump scheduled to host G20 leaders later this year, the Asheville meetings provide the administration with an early opportunity to establish the economic themes it wants to carry into the December summit.

Treasury’s message going into those discussions is that sustained economic expansion, rather than climate policy, should serve as the primary foundation for the G20’s work on global prosperity and financial stability.
