LIBERTY – Police in the Village of Liberty have added two tools to their service weapons to make sound decisions, protect themselves, protect innocent people, and effectively serve the community, according to Chief Steven D’Agata.

The chief says equipment and training are very important in police work.

“We added weapon-mounted lights, which was crucial, and most recently, we have almost all the department trained on pistol-mounted optics, referred to as red dot sights on guns,” he said. “They have a number of benefits. Primarily what it does is allows the officer to have a better special awareness and awareness overall of what is going on they have their handgun out and trained on a target.”

D’Agata said in Sullivan County, Fallsburg Police, State Police and the Sullivan County District Attorney’s Office also utilize pistol-mounted optics on their service weapons.
