STEWART AIRPORT- and have bid to acquire the slots that bankrupt Spirit Airlines had at LaGuardia Airport. JetBlue won out with a bid of $58.5 million to Frontier’s bid of $57.5 million.

Frontier last year had a brief schedule at New York Stewart International Airport at Newburgh, but even after much fanfare about the service, pulled out months later.

The chairman of the advisory Stewart Airport Commission, Paul Quartararo, said Frontier should bring service back to the Hudson Valley’s airport.

“If Frontier Airlines is willing to spend $57 million t fly into LaGuardia, they can basically not have any slot restrictions or slot acquisition costs at Stewart,” he told . “So, I ask if there is an opportunity for Frontier to come back to Stewart?”

Ever since the legacy airlines pulled out of Stewart one by one in the late 1990s, the airport has been unable to attract any significant lasting passenger service to the traveling public.
