President Donald Trump has given reporters a tour of recent renovations at the White House, highlighting a newly installed helipad, landscaping improvements and other upgrades that he said reflect his personal interest in design and real estate.

During the roughly 40-minute presentation, Trump pointed out a granite driveway, refurbished columns, newly laid grass and large flagpoles. The centerpiece was an ornate helipad, which Trump appeared particularly proud of and even signed. He suggested the platform could also serve as a patio for White House events.

Trump also praised Scotts Miracle-Gro for its contribution to the new lawn, using the opportunity to discuss the quality of the grass and his long-standing interest in property development. The tour gave the president a chance to present the physical changes at the White House as evidence of his administration’s efforts to improve the historic complex.

However, the presentation drew criticism from Democrats, who argued that Trump was focusing on cosmetic and personal projects while the country faces significant domestic and international challenges. Senator Jon Ossoff accused the president of appearing more interested in projects associated with his personal image than in governing.

The renovations come as Trump is also pursuing a controversial $400 million White House ballroom project. That development has faced legal challenges, with critics questioning whether the administration has followed the necessary approval process.

Trump’s tour underscored his distinctive approach to the presidency, combining government business with a highly personal interest in architecture, construction and luxury design.
