Dallas-Fort Worth International Airport will install specialized Wudu ablution fixtures in men’s and women’s restrooms in Terminal D as part of a privately funded project expected to cost approximately $300,000.

Dallas-Fort Worth International Airport is preparing to add specialized foot-washing stations to two Terminal D restrooms to accommodate Wudu, the ritual washing performed by Muslims before prayer.

The project calls for one Wudu ablution station to be installed inside an existing men’s restroom and another in an existing women’s restroom at the concourse level of Terminal D, according to the Texas Department of Licensing and Regulation.

The installations were reported by Fox News as specialized plumbing fixtures intended to provide a designated location for the washing associated with Islamic prayer practices.

Wudu is a form of ritual purification that includes washing portions of the body before prayer. The planned airport fixtures will provide dedicated facilities for that practice inside the existing restroom spaces.

Documents filed with Texas regulators indicate that the project will be financed privately rather than with public funding.

The estimated cost is approximately $300,000.

The work is limited to the existing concourse-level restroom facilities in Terminal D, with separate installations planned for the men’s and women’s bathrooms.
