KINGSTON – An Ulster County Court jury has convicted a Sullivan County man for a number of road safety crimes in Ellenville.

The charges against David Loyd, 46, stem from his December 18, 2024, stop and arrest. He fled from police in his vehicle until he got a flat tire, then fled on foot until the State Police arrested him at the scene in Ellenville.

Loyd ran a stop sign, backed him nearly hitting a police car, and led troopers through Ellenville at speeds 30 miles an hour above the speed limit.

When he fled his vehicle on foot through residential backyards, he was tazed. He refused field sobriety and sobriety tests.

Loyd’s driver’s license had been permanently revoked because of several prior drunk driving offenses. He ignored court orders revoking his license and requiring him to install an ignition interlock device on any vehicle he owned or drove.

As a result of his actions, he was charged with felony DWI, driving with a revoked license and while intoxicated, driving while his license was permanently revoked, unlawful fleeing a police officer in a motor vehicle, circumventing an ignition interlock device, obstructing governmental administration and reckless driving.

District Attorney Emmanuel Nneji called Loyd “a belligerent man who feels the world owes him everything, but he owes no responsibility to others.”

Loyd is scheduled to be sentenced in October.

The jury in his trial that ended on July 29 deliberated for 30 minutes before rendering a guilty verdict on all charges against him.
