The Cleveland Browns had a quarterback battle in training camp last season and have another one this season. With Todd Monken as the new head coach in town, everyone is talking about Shedeur Sanders and Deshaun Watson as the potentially Week 1 starting quarterback for Cleveland against the Jacksonville Jaguars. Well, what if someone else decided to emerge into this race?

Last season, Dillon Gabriel became the starter when Joe Flacco was traded to the Cincinnati Bengals. Gabriel was the starter until he was injured in a game against the Baltimore Ravens and then Sanders was the starter for the rest of the season. When Gabriel played for the Browns last season, he completed 59.5% of his passes for 937 yards, seven touchdowns, and two interceptions. Gabriel also rushed for 86 yards on 14 carries and zero touchdowns, along with averaging 6.1 yards per carry. He is 25 years old. Some Browns fans feel like he is an afterthought or is he actually?
Cleveland Browns HC Todd Monken Hints at QB Dillon Gabriel Potentially Getting More Reps in Camp

Browns head coach Todd Monken dropped a hint about Gabriel potentially getting more reps in training camp. Andrew Siciliano, a former NFL Network employee said, “Todd Monken says that if Dillon Gabriel keeps putting together good days in camp, he could potentially get more reps. Says the same logic would apply for any player.” If this is the case, then it will be interesting to see where the rest of the preseason goes. If Gabriel did beat out Watson and Sanders for the starting job, this is a major alarm for the franchise.
This means that Watson is absolutely finished and Sanders has no chance to be a starter in the NFL again for the Browns or any other franchise for that matter. If Gabriel is the starter, it means that Cleveland should start searching for a franchise quarterback in the 2027 NFL Draft. Rookie quarterback Taylen Green from the Arkansas Razorbacks is the other quarterback on the Browns roster also.
