WHITE PLAINS – Westchester County District Attorney Susan Cacace announced that a 55-year-old Yonkers man was sentenced to 25 years to life in state prison for fatally stabbing his 78-year-old brother-in-law in 2024.
John Singh was sentenced last Wednesday on murder and manslaughter convictions for killing Bernard Barua.
On November 16, 2024, at around 1:30 p.m., Yonkers Police responded to an apartment on Bronx Ridge Road where they found the victim suffering from stab wounds to the chest. The defendant was located near the entrance to the apartment.
Both men were transported to the hospital where Barua died from his injuries.
Investigating the case were Yonkers Police, Westchester County Department of Laboratories and Research, the District Attorney’s High Tech Unit and prosecutors from the DA’s office.
