POUGHKEEPSIE – Dutchess County District Attorney Anthony Parisi has launched a new unit that relies on intelligence gathering, data analysis, and coordinated prosecution strategies to identify and address the individuals and criminal networks responsible for persistent criminal activity in the county.
The Smart Prosecution, Strategic Intelligence and Violence Elimination Unit brings together prosecutors, investigators, crime analysts, and law enforcement partners to identify emerging crime patterns, connect related investigations, and focus enforcement resources on repeat offenders and those whose conduct poses the greatest threat to public safety.
Working in close coordination with the Dutchess County Drug Task Force, the Analysis and Real-Time Crime Intelligence Center (ARCTIC), and law enforcement agencies at all levels, the unit will support intelligence-driven investigations from their earliest stages through prosecution.
The unit mission includes the following:
- Identifying repeat offenders and criminal networks associated with violence, firearms and dangerous narcotics.
- Using data and intelligence to recognize crime patterns, emerging threats and connections among seemingly unrelated cases, coordinating investigations across jurisdictions, agencies and prosecutorial units.
- Building stronger, more comprehensive cases against individuals driving serious crime.
- Directing enforcement resources toward the people and locations presenting the greatest risk to the community.
“The launch of our Smart Prosecution, Strategic Intelligence and Violence Elimination Unit represents a fundamental shift toward a more focused, intelligence-driven approach to public safety,” DA Parisi said. “We are bringing prosecutors, investigators and analysts together at the beginning of an investigation to identify the individuals and criminal networks causing the greatest harm and build strong, comprehensive cases against them. By combining crime analysis, strategic intelligence and coordinated enforcement, we are targeting the intersection of narcotics trafficking, repeat offending and violent crime. Our message is clear: if you repeatedly endanger our neighborhoods by trafficking dangerous drugs and contributing to violence, we will identify you, build the strongest case the evidence supports and hold you accountable.”
