Carlson argued that lawmakers supporting deeper military and intelligence integration with Israel should face treason proceedings, calling the proposed cooperation framework in the fiscal 2027 defense bill a “generational disaster.”

Journalist Tucker Carlson sharply criticized a proposal in the fiscal 2027 National Defense Authorization Act that would expand defense-technology cooperation between the United States and Israel, arguing that lawmakers who support the measure are acting against American interests.
During an appearance this week on the “East Meets West with Olga and Tara” podcast, Carlson characterized the proposed initiative as an unacceptable merger of U.S. and Israeli military and intelligence capabilities. He also accused Israel of repeatedly providing Washington with misleading information, including recent claims that killing Iran’s supreme leader would cause the Iranian government to collapse.
“So there’s a long track record of the United States, its people, its 350 million people being misused by Israeli intelligence,” Carlson said. “And so the idea that you would merge them formally is a generational disaster. It’s also humiliating.”
A video excerpt from the interview circulated online following Carlson’s remarks.
When asked whether supporting the proposal amounted to treason, Carlson answered directly.
“Well, it’s the definition of treason. It’s the definition. This is treason. This is acting against your own nation on behalf of a foreign nation,” he said.
Carlson argued that a growing number of Americans now view the relationship as a major national concern rather than a limited foreign-policy disagreement. He also claimed that the war with Iran was weakening American power and damaging European economies.
“But a lot of Americans are waking up to the fact it’s not a minor problem,” Carlson said.
He then called for lawmakers backing the proposed cooperation framework to face proceedings modeled after historic war-crimes tribunals.
“So the idea that the Republican Party would support a merger of U.S. and Israeli intelligence IDF and Pentagon is so deranged that you have to root for treason trials, for Nuremberg trials at some point,” Carlson said.
The provision at the center of the controversy is Section 219 of the fiscal 2027 NDAA, previously designated Section 224. It would create a “United States-Israel Defense Technology Cooperation Initiative.”
The proposed framework would expand bilateral work across a range of defense-related fields, including weapons-system research and development, artificial intelligence and cybersecurity.
Critics of the measure contend that the initiative would deepen U.S. dependence on a foreign government and blur the distinction between American and Israeli security priorities. They have also raised concerns about alleged Israeli intelligence operations directed at the United States.
Supporters, however, have described U.S.-Israel defense cooperation as a means of accelerating technological development and strengthening shared security capabilities.
Carlson rejected that rationale, maintaining that formalizing broader cooperation between the Pentagon, Israeli military and intelligence institutions would undermine U.S. sovereignty and expose American policy to foreign influence.
