WHITE PLAINS – Vaping products disguised to look like everyday items will no longer be found in Westchester County stores.
The recently passed law bans the sale of e-cigarettes and vaping products that resemble things like USB drives, school supplies, smartphone cases, toys and drink containers.
Civil penalties will range from $300 to $1,500 for a first violation and up to $2,500 for repeat offenses.
“Parents shouldn’t have to wonder whether the highlighter in a child’s backpack is actually a vaping device,” said County Board of Legislators’ Chairman Vedat Gashi. “This law shuts down one more tactic used to put nicotine products within easy reach of young people.”
The local law was proposed by County Executive Ken Jenkins and unanimously approved by the legislature.
