The Las Vegas Raiders have officially signed quarterback Fernando Mendoza, the No. 1 overall pick in the 2026 NFL Draft, to his rookie contract, clearing the way for the highly touted signal-caller to participate fully in training camp as the franchise begins a new era.

The four-year contract is reportedly worth $57.27 million and is fully guaranteed, with a team option for a fifth season under the NFL’s rookie contract structure. The agreement was finalized as Raiders rookies reported for training camp, ending weeks of speculation over when the deal would be completed.

Mendoza enters the NFL after an outstanding college career at Indiana, where he captured the Heisman Trophy and led the Hoosiers to a national championship during the 2025 season. Before transferring to Indiana, he spent two seasons at California, building a reputation as one of the nation’s most talented quarterbacks.

Despite being selected first overall, Mendoza is not guaranteed to start immediately. Veteran quarterback Kirk Cousins is expected to compete for the starting role, with Raiders head coach Klint Kubiak previously indicating that he prefers young quarterbacks to develop behind experienced veterans whenever possible.

The Raiders are hoping Mendoza can become the long-term leader of a franchise looking to rebound from a disappointing 3-14 campaign that earned it the top pick in the draft. Expectations are high for the 22-year-old, who is viewed as the centerpiece of the team’s rebuilding effort.

With the contract now complete, attention shifts from negotiations to football, as Mendoza begins preparing for his first NFL training camp and the challenge of proving he is ready to become the Raiders’ quarterback of the future.
