NEWBURGH – Newburgh Illuminated, the very popular city-wide street fair could return next summer if city officials can work out details.

The city council, city administration and event organizers are exploring bringing back the event that attracted tens of thousands of people to the city on the Hudson River. The idea to revive the event was floated by Councilman Rob McLymore.

Richie Fracasse is one of the organizers of past events, which he said were unbelievably popular.

“The last Illuminated we had was two or three years ago before our (previous) police chief and city manager screwed it up for everybody. We had 100,000 people there. A few years prior to that we had 75,000 people there. And that’s no joke; that’s the real deal,” he told Mid-Hudson News.

Fracasse said he and the other former volunteer coordinators, Dave DeLeo and Paul Ernenwein, plan on sitting down with city officials to discuss the possibility of bringing back the weekend event.
