NEWBURGH – Congressman Pat Ryan (D, NY-18)has launched a opposing a potential ICE facility in the Town of Newburgh.

ICE has purchased a large former distribution center in the Newburgh Business Park off Route 17K, but has not disclosed its planned use amid speculation that it would be used to house detainees.

When Homeland Security acquired a large facility in Chester months ago, Ryan amassed over 25,000 petition signatures from area residents that he submitted to the department.

He has begun the same approach with the Town of Newburgh building.

“From the very beginning, the Trump Administration – particularly ICE and HDS – have refused to be transparent with out community,” Ryan said. “We’ve made it clear: we strongly reject a mass detention center or any ICE facility in the Hudson Valley,” the congressman said. “It’s shameful, un-American, and the exact opposite of everything our community stands for.”
