SAMARA, Russia — A Ukrainian strike on Russia’s Samara region killed one person and injured three others Sunday as Kyiv continued targeting energy infrastructure inside Russian territory, according to regional officials.
Samara Gov. Vyacheslav Fedorishchev said a child was among those wounded in the attack.
The strike damaged private homes, apartment buildings and an industrial facility, Fedorishchev said.
Russian media reported that the apparent target was the Syzran Oil Refinery, a Rosneft-owned facility located approximately 500 miles from the Ukrainian border.
Images released by Russian outlets appeared to show thick black smoke rising from the refinery following the attack.
The extent of the damage to the oil facility was not immediately disclosed, and officials did not provide additional details about the condition of the three injured people.
Ukraine has increasingly targeted Russian energy infrastructure as part of its broader military campaign, striking facilities used in the production, processing and distribution of fuel.
The Samara attack added to those operations while also causing casualties and damage in nearby residential areas.
