POUGHKEEPSIE – A suspected drug dealer is in custody following a Wednesday afternoon drug raid at 23 Maryland Avenue in Poughkeepsie. The Dutchess County Drug Task Force, assisted by the Dutchess County Sheriff’s Office Patrol Unit and the City of Poughkeepsie Police raided the residence following an investigation into drug sales in the neighborhood.
Within minutes of the fast-paced raid at around 5 p.m., neighbors gathered at the intersection of Maryland and Willow Avenues to thank the officers involved. “This is great to see,” said one neighbor, who asked to remain anonymous. “I already feel safer knowing that he is being taken away and drug users won’t be in our neighborhood at all hours.”
“This investigation was prompted by tips from several members of the neighborhood,” said Task Force Coordinator Det. Sgt. Adam Harris. “When the community asks for help, we respond right away to take dealers of dangerous drugs off the streets.”
Harris indicated that his undercover agents made several purchases of fentanyl and cocaine from the suspect out of the house that sits back off the road.
“We executed the search warrant and took the suspect into custody. Additional information will be provided in the coming days,” Harris told Mid-Hudson News at the scene.
