Many have been called great. One man carried greatness like a mantle, more than earned, and wore the title Greatest of All Time as if it were stitched into his very being. That man was Cassius Clay, known to the world as Muhammad Ali. This fall, audiences will have the opportunity to witness his life unfold in an eight-part limited series titled The Greatest.
A Legacy Beyond the Ring
When it comes to boxing, skill, technique, and legacy, Muhammad Ali’s name sits at the top. In the ring, he possessed unparalleled power, endurance, and charisma. He stood statuesque and strong, rarely silent about where he stood on matters of consequence. His stance was measured by the actions he took, unwavering and unshaken.

“Outside the ring, his consciousness and empathy for the state of the world, equality, justice, and the fate of the marginalized reverberated louder than his athletic prowess.”
His indomitable spirit was like a suit of armor. When life threw its worst blows, aiming to cripple and break, he stayed the course. That spirit was on full display when, as it is recorded,
He took a conscientious objection to the Vietnam War, a polarizing moment in American history. Stripped of his championship title and banned from boxing for three years, Ali was also barred from earning a living. Yet he fought for reinstatement and would go on to reclaim the heavyweight title two more times.
What he did in the ring was a direct reflection of what he stood for outside of it. He never underestimated his own prowess. He knew who he was and what he was created to do, and he declared it without hesitation. The world had no choice but to stand in agreement. He walked as he talked and lived as he stood.
The Final Fight
In his later years, Ali faced another battle, one that tested him in ways no opponent ever could. He was diagnosed with Parkinson’s disease, one of the most challenging bouts of his life. Yet even then, he maintained his spirit. That struggle became another layer to his legacy, underscoring what a true GOAT looks like. There has never been another like him. Ali was one of one.
Bringing the Legend to Life

Now, his widow, Lonnie Ali, serves as executive producer alongside Ben Watkins, creator and showrunner, to bring a visual portrait of the man to the world. The man who floated like a butterfly and stung like a bee will be remembered in full color and depth. The Greatest is scheduled to premiere on Prime Video on Nov. 4.

The series chronicles Ali’s transformation from a Louisville newcomer to one of the most influential athletes and humanitarians in history. The show goes beyond the ring, exploring Ali’s personal relationships as a father, husband, brother and son, alongside the defining moments that shaped his public legacy.
A Skilled Cast
To bring Ali’s story to life, the series has assembled a cast of skilled artisans. The ensemble includes Omari Hardwick, Dana Gourrier, Michael Ealy, Amin Joseph, and more. This project is touted as the first authorized scripted series about Ali’s life. Prime has already released a teaser for those who want a glimpse of what lies ahead.
