Prince Harry is unlikely to stay at Buckingham Palace during his upcoming visit to the United Kingdom after an earlier accommodation offer was reportedly withdrawn, adding another chapter to the ongoing tensions between the Duke of Sussex and the British royal family.
The development comes as Harry prepares to return to Britain this week for a series of charity engagements in London and Birmingham. The visit is expected to attract significant public attention, not only because of his official schedule but also due to continuing speculation surrounding his relationship with King Charles III and other senior members of the royal family.
Accommodation Plans Changed at the Last Minute
According to Harry’s spokesperson, the Duke of Sussex had initially been offered accommodations at Buckingham Palace during his stay in London.
However, that arrangement was later withdrawn, despite Harry having formally accepted the invitation after resolving security concerns surrounding his visit.
The spokesperson described the situation as disappointing, saying Harry had spent several days arranging alternative security measures before officially confirming that he would accept the accommodation offer over the weekend.
Questions have since been raised about why the invitation was withdrawn after it had reportedly been accepted.
Buckingham Palace has declined to comment publicly on the matter.
Reports Cite Scheduling Requirements
British media reports, citing palace sources, indicated that royal residences require advance notice before guests can be accommodated.
According to those reports, Harry may not have met the required deadline needed for palace staff to prepare the residence for his arrival.
However, representatives for the Duke disputed that explanation, maintaining that palace officials were aware of the evolving security arrangements and that Harry formally accepted the accommodation as soon as those issues had been resolved.
The differing accounts have fueled renewed media speculation about communication between the Duke and Buckingham Palace.
Charity Commitments Continue Despite Changes
Despite the accommodation issue, Prince Harry is expected to proceed with his planned engagements.
His itinerary includes several charity appearances in both London and Birmingham, continuing his longstanding involvement with organizations supporting veterans, mental health initiatives and community development.
The visit underscores Harry’s ongoing commitment to charitable work even after stepping away from official royal duties.
Meghan and Children No Longer Expected in London
Originally, Harry’s wife, Meghan, Duchess of Sussex, along with their two children, Prince Archie and Princess Lilibet, had been expected to accompany him during at least part of the trip.
Those plans have since changed.
According to Harry’s representatives, the decision was influenced by continuing concerns over security arrangements provided for the family while visiting the United Kingdom.
Although Meghan and the children will not travel to London, the spokesperson did not entirely rule out the possibility that they could join Harry later during his visit to Birmingham if circumstances allow.
The change has further fueled public interest regarding the relationship between the Sussex family and the royal household.
Security Dispute Remains Ongoing
Security has remained one of the central issues surrounding Prince Harry’s visits to Britain since he and Meghan stepped down as senior working royals in 2020.
After relocating to the United States, the couple lost access to publicly funded police protection that is typically provided to senior members of the royal family.
Harry has repeatedly argued that the existing security arrangements are insufficient for his family during visits to Britain and has pursued legal action challenging aspects of those decisions.
The issue continues to influence planning for every trip the Duke makes to his home country.
Visit Coincides With Court Decision
Harry’s return to Britain also comes as a court is expected to issue a ruling in his privacy lawsuit against Associated Newspapers, the publisher of the Daily Mail.
The case centers on allegations concerning unlawful information gathering and privacy violations.
Harry’s spokesperson suggested that the timing of the expected court judgment may have contributed to the accommodation decision but emphasized that Buckingham Palace had reportedly been aware of the legal schedule well in advance.
The court ruling is expected to draw considerable attention given Harry’s long-running legal battles with several British media organizations.
Royal Family Rift Continues
Relations between Prince Harry and the royal family have remained strained since he and Meghan stepped away from their official roles more than five years ago.
The couple relocated to California, where they have built new careers focused on charitable work, media production and business ventures.
Since leaving royal life, Harry has openly discussed family disagreements through television interviews, documentaries and his bestselling memoir, Spare, published in 2023.
In the memoir, Harry detailed long-standing tensions within the royal household, including his deteriorating relationship with his older brother, Prince William.
Among the book’s most widely discussed claims were allegations of a physical confrontation between the brothers and Harry’s assertion that internal family conflicts had been left unresolved for years.
Harry has maintained that sharing his experiences was intended to promote accountability rather than seek revenge.
Relationship With King Charles Remains Uncertain
Prince Harry has made several solo visits to Britain since relocating overseas.
During one trip last year, he briefly met with King Charles III after previously saying that communication between them had become limited.
The king, who continues receiving treatment for cancer, has had relatively few opportunities to spend time with his grandchildren, Archie and Lilibet, who have largely grown up in the United States.
Earlier in 2025, Harry publicly expressed hope that the family could eventually reconcile.
He said he wanted the years of conflict to come to an end and acknowledged concerns about his father’s health, remarking that he did not know how much longer the king might have.
Public Attention Focuses on Royal Future
Every visit Prince Harry makes to Britain continues to generate widespread public and media interest because of the unresolved tensions surrounding his relationship with the monarchy.
While this week’s trip is centered on charitable activities, developments involving his accommodations, family travel plans and ongoing legal proceedings have once again placed the Duke of Sussex at the center of public attention.
Whether the latest setback represents a simple administrative issue or reflects deeper divisions within the royal family remains unclear. However, it underscores that relations between Prince Harry and the House of Windsor continue to be closely scrutinized as both sides navigate an increasingly complicated and highly public relationship.
