MONROE – The towns of Monroe and Palm Tree and the Village of Kiryas Joel all share the same mailing zip code, and local officials would like to separate Monroe from the other two communities for purposes of getting mail delivery.

Orange County Executive Steven Neuhaus supports that so long as the municipalities ae comfortable with it.

His only concern is that the postal office forwards mail properly to the respective zip codes for a long time. “You get letters that many be a year from now they might not know they changed the address, but I am sure that will get worked out some way or another,” he said.

At present, the three communities all share the 10950 Zip Code.

This would be similar to the situation in the City of Middletown and Town of Wallkill, both of which shared the 10940 Zip Code for the longest time, but in recent years, Wallkill’s Zip Code was charged to 10941.

Years ago, the City and Town of Newburgh and Town of New Windsor shared the same 12550 Zip Code until New Windsor was split apart with the 12553 Zip Code.
