The United States marked America’s 250th birthday with a record-setting fireworks display over Washington, D.C., launching approximately 850,000 fireworks during a 40-minute show over the National Mall.

The display capped President Donald Trump’s America 250 celebration and surpassed the previous Guinness World Record for the largest fireworks display, which was set in the Philippines on New Year’s Day in 2016 with 810,904 fireworks.

The Washington show was launched from multiple firing locations, including barges positioned along the Potomac River. Organizers spent months planning the large-scale pyrotechnic event, which was designed as the centerpiece of the nation’s semiquincentennial celebration.

Trump had promoted the display ahead of the Fourth of July in a Truth Social post, saying it would be the largest fireworks show ever staged.

“On July 4th… I will be launching, what will be, the LARGEST FIREWORKS SHOW IN HISTORY, right here in our Nation’s Capital,” Trump wrote.

The pyrotechnics were handled by Pyrotecnico, a family-owned Pennsylvania company now in its fifth generation. Company leaders described the event as “the biggest show we’ve ever done.”

The company used advanced computer simulations and experience from major productions, including Super Bowls and other large events, to coordinate the display.

Dozens of technicians worked across multiple firing locations to execute the show, creating a synchronized barrage visible to crowds gathered from the Lincoln Memorial to the Capitol.

The fireworks marked one of the largest public spectacles of the America 250 celebration, combining the Fourth of July observance with a world-record attempt on the National Mall.
