ALBANY – If your Orange County home has a private well for drinking water, you may be eligible for a state rebate to have your well tested and remediated if it is found to have the presence of the carcinogenic PFAS chemical.
It is part of a State Health Department pilot program that will provide rebates to users of well water if they exceed drinking water standards and either connect to a public water supply or install an in-home PFAS treatment system.
The grants will be available on a first-served basis.
All residents with private wells are eligible; however, emphasis is given to properties located in areas identified by the state as priority areas based on the number of parcels with private water and septic and a high population density.
