Angel Lebron

POUGHKEEPSIE – Convicted killer Angel Lebron, 49, is facing another prison term after being convicted on drug charges by a jury on Monday afternoon.  Lebron, convicted of stabbing a man to death 15 years ago in Beacon, was arrested by the Dutchess County Drug Task Force following an investigation into drug sales in and around the Trolley Barn at 489 Main Street in Poughkeepsie in November.

When task force agents attempted to take Lebron into custody on North Clinton Street in November, he fought with them and attempted to take an agent’s gun, .  The jury did not agree that Lebron attempted to take the agent’s Glock 22 when he grabbed the agent’s holster and pulled the weapon toward himself, according to District Attorney Anthony Parisi.

On Monday, following two days of testimony and several hours of deliberations in Dutchess County Court, Lebron was convicted of felony criminal possession of a controlled substance.  The jury acquitted him of the felony of attempted criminal possession of a controlled substance.

“We respect the jury’s service and appreciate the time and attention they devoted to this case. While we are pleased that the jury held Mr. Lebron accountable for possessing a significant quantity of cocaine, we respectfully disagree with its decision to acquit on the charge stemming from the defendant’s attempt to take a firearm from a police officer,” Parisi said, following the conviction.  “Law enforcement officers put their lives on the line every day to protect our communities, and any attempt to disarm an officer presents an immediate and extraordinary danger to that officer, fellow officers, and the public. We believed the evidence established that charge beyond a reasonable doubt. Nevertheless, the jury’s conviction on the narcotics offense ensures that the defendant will be held accountable and face a substantial state prison sentence. I commend the Dutchess County Drug Task Force and the prosecutors who handled this case for their professionalism and dedication throughout this investigation and trial.”

The trial was conducted in Dutchess County Court before the Honorable Karen Edelman-Reyes, who has scheduled sentencing for August 31, 2026. Lebron faces a determinate sentence of between 6 and 15 years in prison.
