WHITE PLAINS – Temperatures across the region are expected to reach near 100 degrees later this week and as they inch upward, counties and municipalities are opening cooling centers. You can check with your local government to learn where they are located.

Westchester County Health Commissioner Dr. Sherlita Amler has advice when coping with the oppressive temperatures.

“When you spend time outdoors, I want you to remember hydrated. Do not overexert yourself and take breaks in the shade or air conditioning,” she said. “Be sure to check on any older adults and any others who may be vulnerable to this extreme heat.”

Infants, people with asthma, pregnant women, older adults, and those with heart disease or other respiratory or heart conditions, should spend less time outdoors until the air quality improvise and the temperatures start to cool.

Amler also said pets have access to water and shade.
