Immigration and Customs Enforcement has arrested more than 10,000 foreign gang members during President Donald Trump’s second term, according to the Department of Homeland Security.
The arrests include gang members accused or convicted of violent and organized crime offenses, DHS said, including murder, assault with a deadly weapon, drug trafficking, racketeering conspiracy, robbery and extortion.
More than 10,000 gang members have been arrested by ICE under Trump, according to the report.
“These 10,000 criminals committed heinous crimes, including murder, assault with a deadly weapon, drug trafficking, racketeering conspiracy, robbery, and extortion,” DHS said in a statement.
The department said the 10,000th gang member arrested was an MS-13 member from Mexico. Officials said he had previously been arrested for possession of a weapon and cocaine and for abducting a woman.
DHS said other gang members arrested by ICE included individuals wanted in connection with multiple murders. Among them was an MS-13 member who confessed to killing five people in his native El Salvador.
DHS Secretary Markwayne Mullin said many of the gang members taken into custody had been released into the United States during the Biden administration.
“These vicious criminals murdered, assaulted, robbed, and terrorized innocent Americans for sport,” Mullin said.
“Thanks to the Secure America Act, ICE is turbocharged to arrest even more gang members and criminals from American neighborhoods,” he added.
The Secure America Act, signed into law at the beginning of the month, funds immigration enforcement through 2029. The law provides $38 billion in additional funding, including $5 billion for technology and screening equipment.
The arrests come amid broader federal enforcement efforts targeting gangs, weapons and drug trafficking. In mid-June, the Department of Justice announced that 1,100 people had been arrested between March 1 and May 31 as part of Operation Spring Cleaning.
Charges were filed against 600 people under that operation, according to the department. Authorities also seized more than 1,000 illegal firearms and thousands of pounds of drugs.
The DHS figures highlight the Trump administration’s continued emphasis on immigration enforcement and gang removal, with officials saying the new funding provided under the Secure America Act will expand ICE’s ability to target criminal networks operating inside the United States.
