President Donald Trump announced Saturday that he has nominated Lance Schroyer, a former Oklahoma state trooper and U.S. Marine, to serve as the next director of U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement.
Schroyer would replace Acting ICE Director Dave Venturella if confirmed by the Senate. The Department of Homeland Security has not had a Senate-confirmed ICE director in 11 years.
Trump announced the nomination in a Truth Social post, praising Schroyer’s law enforcement background and calling on the Senate to confirm him quickly.
“I am very pleased to announce that I have nominated Lance Schroyer to be our next ICE Director,” Trump said. “Lance has over 29 YEARS of Law Enforcement experience in Oklahoma — A State where I WON all 77 Counties in 2016, 2020, and 2024!”
Trump said Schroyer’s background as an Oklahoma state trooper and Marine gives him the operational experience needed to lead the immigration enforcement agency.
“Lance is a former Oklahoma State Trooper, and United States Marine,” Trump said. “He is a PATRIOT with real operational experience, and proven leader with DECADES of experience locking up the worst of the worst, including spearheading 287g Law Enforcement partnerships with ICE!”
The president said Schroyer has direct experience removing illegal aliens from communities and said he shares the administration’s commitment to ICE personnel.
“Lance has firsthand experience getting Illegal Aliens OFF our streets and, just like ME and our Secretary of Homeland Security Markwayne Mullin, he LOVES the men and women of ICE,” Trump said. “Importantly, Lance Schroyer has what it takes to DETAIN AND DEPORT Illegal Alien Criminals, including murders, rapists, and drug traffickers at a rate never seen before!”
Trump also pointed to immigration enforcement numbers under his administration.
“Remember, our Administration has the HIGHEST Daily Arrest Rate by ICE and CBP than ANY other President, by far,” Trump said.
“It’s not even close! The Senate must CONFIRM Lance, IMMEDIATELY — Do not delay. Together, we will MAKE AMERICA SAFE AGAIN. Thank you for your attention to this matter! President DONALD J. TRUMP,” he added.
The announcement follows the resignation earlier this year of Todd Lyons, who previously served as acting ICE director. Lyons submitted his resignation to DHS Chief Markwayne Mullin.
Mullin praised Trump’s decision to nominate Schroyer, saying the former Oklahoma law enforcement officer would help carry out the administration’s immigration agenda.
“With over 29 years of law enforcement experience, Lance will play a vital role in helping deliver on the President’s mandate from the American people to target, arrest, and deport illegal aliens,” Mullin said.
Mullin said Schroyer’s work in Oklahoma included coordinating large-scale operations and working with state and federal partners under the 287g program, which allows certain state and local law enforcement agencies to cooperate with ICE on immigration enforcement.
“Lance is coming straight from the operational field where he ran large scale operations and worked alongside state and federal partners to remove illegal aliens from Oklahoma under the 287g program,” Mullin said.
“President Trump made a great pick, and I’m confident Lance’s strong leadership and firsthand experience will empower the men and women of ICE to deport criminal illegal aliens, secure the homeland, and protect the American people,” he added.
The nomination was also shared in an X post.
Schroyer’s nomination now moves to the Senate, where confirmation would make him the first Senate-confirmed ICE director in more than a decade.
