WAPPINGERS FALLS – Following the shooting death of a 17-year-old male in the village early Saturday morning, the Wappingers Falls PD has issued a statement through Police Commissioner Dave Fisher.  The teen was killed in an officer-involved shooting that is being investigated.

Indicating that more than one member of law enforcement discharged their firearms during the incident, Fisher said, “During the incident, law enforcement personnel discharged their firearms.  Tragically, a 17-year-old male lost his life during the encounter.”

Fisher acknowledged the death, stating, “On behalf of the members of the Village of Wappingers Falls Police Department, I extend my sincere condolences to the family and friends of this young man.  Our thoughts are also with the responding officers, their families, and all those whose lives have been affected by this tragic incident.”

Indicating that protocol has resulted in an investigation by the Dutchess County Sheriff’s Office, with oversight from the New York State Attorney General’s Office, Commissioner Fisher said his department is cooperating fully with the investigation.

“Because this remains an active investigation, it would be inappropriate for this department to comment further on the facts and circumstances surrounding the incident.  Additional information will be released by the appropriate investigative agency when it can be done without compromising the integrity of this investigation,” Fisher said.
