The U.S. military struck Iranian missile storage, drone storage and coastal radar sites Friday after an Iranian drone attack hit a commercial cargo vessel near the Strait of Hormuz, according to U.S. Central Command.

The strikes followed Iran’s June 25 attack on the M/V Ever Lovely, a Singapore-flagged cargo ship that was exiting the Strait of Hormuz along the Omani coast when it was struck by a one-way attack drone. The incident came amid a ceasefire agreement and prompted a direct U.S. military response.

“U.S. Central Command (CENTCOM) forces conducted strikes against Iran, June 26, as a powerful response to yesterday’s attack on a commercial ship that was transiting the Strait of Hormuz,” CENTCOM said in a statement shared in an X post.

“U.S. aircraft struck Iranian missile and drone storage locations and coastal radar sites after Iran hit M/V Ever Lovely on June 25 with a one-way attack drone. The Singapore-flagged cargo ship was exiting the Strait of Hormuz along the Omani coast at the time of Iran’s attack,” CENTCOM said.

CENTCOM said the attack on the commercial ship violated the ceasefire and threatened freedom of navigation through the critical maritime corridor.

“The unwarranted aggression against commercial shipping by Iranian forces clearly violated the ceasefire. Furthermore, Iran’s dangerous behavior undermined freedom of navigation as commerce increasingly flows through the vital international trade corridor,” the command said.

The command said U.S. forces remain in the region to support commercial vessels moving through the strait.

“CENTCOM forces continue to provide safe passage coordination and support to commercial vessels transiting the strait. The U.S. military remains present and vigilant to ensure all aspects of the agreement with Iran are adhered to, obeyed, and in full force and effect,” CENTCOM said.

The U.S. response came one day after Iranian drones attacked the cargo ship as it moved near the Strait of Hormuz. Additional reporting on the developing situation was shared through another X post.

Earlier Friday, President Donald Trump said Iran had launched at least four drones at ships transiting the Strait of Hormuz and described the attack as a “foolish violation” of the ceasefire agreement.

“The Islamic Republic of Iran shot at least four One Way Attack Drones at Ships transversing the Strait of Hormuz. One of the Drones solidly hit the upper deck of a large and very expensive Cargo Carrying Ship. Damage was done, but the Ship was able to proceed on its way. We knocked down three other Drones. Obviously, this is a foolish violation of our Ceasefire Agreement,” Trump said in a Truth Social post.

The Strait of Hormuz is a vital international trade route, and the attack raised new concerns over commercial shipping and compliance with the ceasefire agreement. CENTCOM said American forces will continue supporting safe passage for vessels moving through the waterway while monitoring Iran’s adherence to the agreement.
