HIGHLAND MILLS – The Town of Woodbury is finally getting a municipal building of its own with $4 million from the state that helps solve a lingering problem for this community.

“We’re very pleased to announce, working in collaboration with everyone here, $0 to the town and village taxpayers,” said state Sen. James Skoufis (D, Cornwall), “we were able to secure $4 million and adapt this building behind (us).”

The building Skoufis was standing in front of with his remarks Tuesday is the former education center for St. Patrick’s Roman Catholic Church.

The building is being purchased for $1.9 million, and the remainder will be spent on renovations to complete the transition into a municipal building. The project will be complete in 2027 and include the retention of the existing gymnasium for community events.

The town currently pays $78,000 annually to lease its municipal building, something that will no longer be an expense for town taxpayers.

“It’s almost like the adage a house is not a home until you have your family there,” said Town of Woodbury Supervisor Jaqueline Hernandez. “And so with a new municipal building that would bring together our services in one place that would provide our families with a space to have community, have events, to have special gatherings, is very important, it’s very important to the fabric of what Woodbury is looking for right now.”
