HILLBURN – A crash between two vehicles in the early morning hours of Sunday claimed the life of a Hewitt, New Jersey man, State Police reported.

Killed in the crash was 64-year-old Guido DeCastro, who was driving a Mini Cooper that crashed into a Honda Odyssey.

Troopers said at around 1:20 a.m., the incident occurred on the northbound Interstate 287 ramp leading to the I-87 northbound/southbound split in Hillburn.

The preliminary investigation found that a 2010 Honda Odyssey was attempting to transition from I-287 to I-87 when it stopped on the center shoulder, over the white fog line and partially within the travel lane.

The 2015 Mini Cooper, traveling in the same direction, struck the rear of the Honda. DeCastro was extricated from the vehicle and transported to Good Samaritan Hospital in Suffern where he was pronounced dead.

The driver of the Honda, Orquidea Pena Henriguez, 40, of Hackensack, NJ and a 13-year-old passenger were taken to Good Samaritan Hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

The investigation into the incident is continuing.
