The Department of War on Friday released a third tranche of declassified documents and videos involving Unidentified Anomalous Phenomena, including several reports describing luminous “orb” sightings in the northeastern United States.
The latest materials were posted to the department’s public UFO website and include six pages of newly declassified files. The release highlights multiple incidents over the last several years in which witnesses reported unusual light sources or orb-like objects moving, hovering or changing shape.
One of the videos, recorded by a private citizen in July 2025, shows two lights or orbs moving together in the sky. The footage was also shared in an online post.
According to the Department of War’s description of the July 2025 incident, which was based on witness statements to the FBI, the sighting began at about 9 p.m. local time after an eyewitness returned home from work.
“In July 2025, at approximately 2100 local time in the northeastern United States, an eyewitness observed an intense bright light in their backyard as they parked their car upon returning home from work,” the department’s account said. “The light was hovering approximately 25 feet off the ground, below a tree line near the center of their backyard, at an estimated distance of 90 feet.”
The eyewitness briefly stepped out of the vehicle before retrieving a phone to record the object. The person’s spouse then came outside and also saw the light, describing it as a “brilliant red sphere” about one meter in diameter. According to the account, the center of the red sphere appeared to be a white plasma “sun” about the size of a basketball.
The department said the first orb slowly rose and moved left before the witnesses saw a second identical object hovering above it.
“The eyewitness then began recording the event using an iPhone 14 Pro Max, capturing the footage depicted in this video,” the department said. “As the eyewitness began recording, the orbs moved westward together above a nearby tree line. The witnesses described the orbs’ motion as silent and smooth, and as moving in tandem as though they were flying in formation or tethered together.”
The witnesses also reported that the two objects appeared to merge before moving out of sight.
“As the orbs moved out of sight, both eyewitnesses saw them appear to merge,” the department said. “The eyewitnesses estimated that the orbs moved from their initial position before disappearing from view at an estimated distance of 75 yards.”
The July 2025 incident occurred within 25 miles of another location where orb sightings had been reported. Another video released Friday, titled “Orbs Over the Pond,” documents a separate event from October 2024 at that nearby location. That release was also highlighted in an online post.
In the October 2024 case, the Department of War said an eyewitness saw a light source below the horizon hovering above a pond.
“In October 2024, at approximately 1851 local time in the northeastern United States, an eyewitness observed a light source below the horizon, hovering above a pond at an estimated distance of 2,700 feet,” the department said. “The luminous object resembled a ‘plasma-like sphere’ intermittently changing shape and luminosity.”
The department said the witness reported that the main light appeared at times to separate into smaller points of light. A separate luminous point below the primary source hovered just above the water and did not appear consistent with a surface reflection.
“The object remained generally stationary for approximately 45 minutes before disappearing,” the department said. “The eyewitness did not hear any sound from the objects.”
The video was recorded by a private citizen on an iPhone and later analyzed and authenticated by the U.S. government, according to the Department of War. Officials said the footage was cropped to protect the person’s privacy, but otherwise was not edited, enhanced or altered.
The latest release also references earlier reports from the same lightly populated area. In March 2022, two red light sources were captured on video. That followed a November 2021 UAP sighting involving triangle-shaped orbs in the northeastern United States.
The Department of War’s third tranche adds to the government’s growing public archive of UAP material and shows a recurring pattern of witness-reported orb sightings in one northeastern region over multiple years. Officials did not identify a cause for the objects in the released descriptions.
