Last night on Real News with Lucretia Hughes, I had the honor of sitting down with author, NRA writer and editor Frank Miniter for a conversation that went far beyond books, politics or headlines.
It was a conversation about boys, men, courage, responsibility, conservation, the Second Amendment and what happens when a nation forgets the heroes who helped build it.
Miniter’s newest book, Cool Heroes for Boys: 20 True Tales of Adventure, is exactly the kind of book America needs right now. At a time when too many young boys are being told to sit down, be quiet, stop dreaming big and feel ashamed of being strong, this book reminds them that courage is still good. Adventure is still good. Discipline is still good. Being a protector, provider and leader is still good.
That message matters.
Our boys need real heroes again. Not fake celebrities. Not social media influencers pushing confusion. Not politicians telling them that masculinity is dangerous. They need stories of real men who faced danger, made mistakes, learned hard lessons and kept going. They need to know that bravery is not toxic. Honor is not outdated. Faith is not weakness. Loving your family and country is not something to apologize for.
That is why this interview was so important.
We also talked about the NRA and why its work still matters in this country. For many of us, the NRA is not just about firearms. It is about freedom. It is about the Constitution. It is about the right of law-abiding citizens to protect themselves, their homes and their families. It is about standing in the gap when powerful people want to strip away rights they did not give us in the first place.
The Second Amendment is not about hunting alone, but hunting has played a major role in teaching generations of Americans responsibility, discipline, patience and respect for life. That is where conservation comes in.
Too many people who attack hunters and gun owners do not understand that hunters have been some of the strongest conservationists in America. They help protect wildlife. They support habitat restoration. They teach the next generation that the land is not something to abuse, but something to respect. Real conservation is not about worshiping government control. It is about stewardship.
God gave us this land, these resources and this nation, and we have a responsibility to take care of them.
That is the heart of what I heard in my conversation with Frank Miniter. It was not just about a book. It was about rebuilding something that has been under attack for far too long.
Love of God, Family and Country is not a slogan to me. It is the foundation. When you remove God, you remove truth. When you weaken the family, you weaken the nation. When you teach children to hate their country, you raise a generation that will not defend it.
That is why books like Cool Heroes for Boys matter. That is why conversations like this matter. That is why the NRA, conservation and the fight for our freedoms still matter.
America does not need weaker boys. America needs stronger families. America needs fathers, mothers, grandparents, mentors and leaders willing to tell the truth. We need young men who know how to work, pray, protect, build, serve and stand.
Last night’s interview reminded me that we are not alone in this fight. There are still people writing the stories, teaching the lessons and defending the values that made this nation great.
And as long as we keep telling the truth, honoring God, defending the family and standing for this country, there is still hope for the next generation.
