Former U.S. Border Patrol official Greg Bovino is taking early steps toward a possible 2028 presidential campaign, launching an exploratory committee and a campaign-style website as he weighs whether to formally enter the race.
Bovino, who retired in March after nearly three decades with the Border Patrol, is considering a White House bid centered on immigration enforcement, border security and national sovereignty, the Daily Beast reported.
“If I were president, I’d lead that effort from the front and be on the front lines from time to time,” Bovino told the outlet.
Bovino confirmed Monday on NewsNation that his possible campaign remains in the exploratory phase. He said he plans to move ahead with a formal run “if it all comes together.”
The exploratory committee has launched Bovino2028.com, a website that presents Bovino’s views on immigration, national security and law enforcement. The site features imagery tied to his federal law enforcement background and emphasizes his record as a former Border Patrol official.
Bovino has previously criticized President Donald Trump, accusing him of retreating from aggressive immigration enforcement. Since leaving government service, he has become a public voice for stricter border policies, expanded deportation efforts and a more forceful federal approach to illegal immigration.
The website includes a photograph of Bovino wearing a coat that has drawn criticism from some observers, who have compared it to outerwear associated with the Nazi era. Bovino previously told NewsNation that the coat was issued by the Border Patrol and that he has owned it for more than 25 years.
The site’s logo reads, “House Bovino — Men Fight Back.”
A section titled “A Bold National Strategy” outlines the tone of Bovino’s political message, praising what the website describes as forceful leadership on immigration and border security.
“Following The Commander’s maximum effectiveness in quelling the foreign hordes that have subsumed our nation’s cities, both large and small, the American people witnessed what true leadership, powered by a warrior mindset, actually looks like as The Commander endeavored to restore order and national sovereignty,” the website states.
The language reflects Bovino’s broader focus on immigration enforcement, an issue that has defined his public commentary and media appearances since his retirement.
Bovino’s exploratory effort comes more than a year before the 2028 presidential campaign is expected to fully take shape. His early messaging suggests he would seek to position himself as a law-and-order candidate focused on border security, deportations and what he describes as restoring national sovereignty.
The move also places Bovino among early figures testing whether there is support for a campaign built around a hard-line immigration platform after Trump’s presidency.
