TOWN OF NEWBURGH – Former Town of Newburgh Police Chief Charles “Charlie” Kehoe died Saturday. He was 79.

Kehoe dedicated 32 years of service to the Town of Newburgh community. He began his law enforcement career in 1977 and retired in 2009 after a distinguished career of public service.

“He was definitely a cop’s cop,” said Town of Newburgh Deputy Supervisor Scott Manley. “Chief Kehoe also had a heart of gold, and he would help anyone he could. I worked with him for my entire career. Charlie will be missed by all.”

“Charlie was the chief of chiefs, a great police officer and a dedicated family man,” added Town of Newburgh Supervisor Gil Piaquadio. “He will be sadly missed, and my prayers are with his family.”

Kehoe graduated from Newburgh Free Academy before proudly serving in the United States Air Force as a medic during the Vietnam War. Upon returning home, he began his career with the Town of Newburgh Police Department.

A memorial service for Kehoe will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday at Grace Memorial Garden and Funeral Home in Hudson, Florida. A second memorial service will be announced at a later date in Middlehope, where Kehoe will be laid to rest at Cedar Hill Cemetery in the fall.
