A Russian drone strike on a food factory in the Kyiv region killed four people and injured seven others, Ukrainian officials said Friday.
The attack struck a civilian food industry enterprise outside the Ukrainian capital, sparking a fire in an administrative building and destroying parts of the structure, according to regional Gov. Mykola Kalashnyk.
“The enemy attacked a peaceful civilian food industry enterprise,” Kalashnyk said on Telegram. “People who were simply going about their work at their workplaces at the time.”
Kalashnyk said two people may still be trapped beneath the rubble as search and rescue efforts continued at the site.
Emergency services said crews remained on scene after the strike, working through debris and extinguishing flames. Officials released images showing firefighters spraying water on a damaged building with a large opening torn through part of the structure.
One of the images showed signage from a local dairy producer that makes baby milk food.
The strike added to the toll of Russia’s drone attacks on civilian and industrial sites in Ukraine. Officials said the factory was operating as a food production facility when the attack occurred, and the victims were workers present at the site during the strike.
Rescue teams continued searching the damaged building for possible survivors as authorities assessed the full extent of the destruction.
