WHITE PLAINS – For the second year, the federal government has granted Westchester County $1 million to strengthen the county’s coordinated response to high-risk domestic violence cases, expand victim support services, improve offender accountability and enhance partnerships between law enforcement, advocates and service providers.
The funding will support the county’s Domestic Violence High Risk Team headed up by Project Director David Ryan, especially with the rise in strangulations.
“We have seen over 7,800 high-risk cases of domestic violence in Westchester County since January 1, 2020. That means 7,800 potential homicides let’s call it what it is,” he said. “To have the support that we have to receive this grant funding to keep this work going is really just a testimony and a testament to a culture of leadership that does not exist in a lot of places.”
County Commissioner of Public Safety Terrance Raynor said, “Every person deserves to feel safe, especially in their own home.” And he said his department works closely with all partner agencies to ensure victims of domestic violence receive appropriate support when incidents occur.
