The legacy of legendary comic book creator Stan Lee is set to live on in a new and groundbreaking way after an artificial intelligence company reportedly secured a major partnership with Stan Lee Universe to recreate the late Marvel icon’s voice and likeness for commercial and entertainment use.
AI technology company ElevenLabs, which specializes in generative audio, voice synthesis, and AI-powered content creation, announced that it has reached an agreement to add Stan Lee to its growing collection of recognizable personalities available through its platform. The move will allow users to interact with AI-generated versions of Lee’s voice and image years after his passing.
Stan Lee, widely regarded as one of the most influential figures in comic book history, died in 2018 at the age of 95. He was the creative force behind some of Marvel Comics’ most beloved superheroes, helping to bring characters such as Spider-Man, Iron Man, The Hulk, Thor, and the X-Men into popular culture.
The announcement marks a significant step in the growing trend of using artificial intelligence to preserve and recreate the voices and appearances of iconic public figures. Through ElevenLabs’ technology, fans will now be able to hear an AI-generated version of Stan Lee narrate books, stories, and other content, providing what the company describes as a new way to experience his enduring legacy.
To introduce the partnership, ElevenLabs released a promotional video featuring a digitally recreated version of Lee’s voice. In the video, the AI-generated voice delivers a message reflecting on the enduring nature of legendary figures.
“You know what they never tell you about legends?” the synthesized voice says. “They outlive the page.”
According to reports, users of the company’s Eleven Reader application can now select Stan Lee’s voice to narrate books and written content. The platform also allows creators to generate comic book-inspired visual templates featuring Lee’s likeness, giving fans and artists new tools to celebrate his impact on storytelling and popular culture.
ElevenLabs revealed that the AI model was trained using professional recordings of Lee, allowing the system to closely replicate his distinctive voice and speaking style. The company says the technology was developed in collaboration with representatives of Stan Lee Universe to ensure that the recreation remains faithful to his personality and public image.
Chaz Rainey, a lawyer and board member of Stan Lee Universe, said the partnership aligns with Lee’s lifelong commitment to connecting with fans through emerging forms of media.
“Stan always believed in meeting his fans where they were,” Rainey explained. “Whether it was through the pages of a comic book, appearances at conventions, television interviews, or his famous movie cameos, he was always looking for ways to engage with people and share his passion for storytelling.”
Rainey described the collaboration with ElevenLabs as a modern extension of that philosophy, allowing future generations to experience Lee’s voice in a way that would have been impossible just a few years ago.
“Fans have often told us that when they read Stan’s comics, they can hear the words in his voice,” Rainey said. “Now, thanks to this technology, we can make that experience a reality.”
In addition to recreating Lee’s voice and likeness, the partnership will launch a new initiative called the “Stan Lee Book Club of the Month.” The program will feature a new public-domain title each month, narrated using the AI-generated version of Lee’s voice. Organizers say the project is intended to honor Lee’s lifelong love of reading, literature, and storytelling.
Supporters of the project believe the technology offers a unique opportunity to preserve Stan Lee’s influence for future generations while introducing younger audiences to his passion for creativity and imagination.
“His voice, his image, and his love of storytelling were central to who he was,” Rainey said. “ElevenLabs provides a way to keep those elements alive and accessible to fans around the world in a manner that reflects his spirit and legacy.”
The announcement comes as artificial intelligence continues to transform the entertainment industry, raising both excitement and debate over how the likenesses and voices of deceased celebrities should be used. While some view such projects as a powerful tool for preserving cultural icons, others have raised ethical questions about digital recreations and the future of posthumous celebrity licensing.
For many Marvel fans, however, the opportunity to once again hear Stan Lee’s familiar voice may serve as a nostalgic reminder of the man whose imagination helped shape generations of comic book readers and moviegoers.
Nearly a decade after his passing, Stan Lee’s famous message of creativity, heroism, and wonder continues to inspire millions—and now, through artificial intelligence, his voice may continue telling stories for years to come.
