Shares of Dell Technologies soared nearly 40% in premarket trading Friday after the company delivered blockbuster quarterly results and sharply raised its annual financial forecasts, fueled by surging demand for artificial intelligence servers powered by Nvidia Corporation chips.
The explosive rally positioned Dell to add more than $81 billion in market value if gains hold through regular trading, marking one of the company’s strongest single-day market reactions in years and reinforcing investor enthusiasm surrounding the rapidly expanding AI infrastructure sector.
The technology company, long known for its personal computers and enterprise hardware, has transformed into one of the biggest beneficiaries of the global artificial intelligence boom as major cloud providers and corporations dramatically increase spending on data centers and AI computing systems.
Dell’s latest results highlighted how demand for high-performance servers and AI infrastructure continues to accelerate across the technology industry, driven by aggressive investment from companies racing to expand generative AI capabilities.
Among the key customers fueling the surge are Alphabet Inc. and Amazon.com Inc., both of which have significantly increased data center spending to support growing AI workloads and cloud computing operations.
The company also benefited from higher pricing, improved supply chain efficiency and stronger margins tied to advanced AI hardware systems.
On Thursday, Dell Technologies dramatically increased its annual revenue forecast, projecting fiscal year revenue between $165 billion and $169 billion, compared with its previous guidance of $138 billion to $142 billion.
Dell also raised expectations for AI server sales, saying it now anticipates approximately $60 billion in AI server revenue during fiscal 2027, up from an earlier estimate of $50 billion.
The revised outlook stunned analysts and investors, underscoring the extraordinary pace at which artificial intelligence infrastructure spending has accelerated across the technology sector.
Wall Street firms responded quickly to the earnings report, with at least three brokerages raising their price targets on Dell shares following the results.
According to data compiled by LSEG, the stock currently carries a median analyst target price of $236.50, while 19 out of 28 analysts covering the company maintain “Buy” or stronger ratings on the shares.
Analysts at Morgan Stanley described Dell’s quarterly performance as one of the most impressive earnings reports seen in the hardware sector in recent years.
“This was across the board one of the most impressive quarters we’ve seen in our time covering hardware, especially in the context of what is happening across the component universe,” Morgan Stanley analysts wrote in a note to clients.
The results further reinforced the growing investor belief that artificial intelligence spending is shifting heavily toward physical infrastructure, including servers, chips, networking equipment and data center expansion.
Companies such as Dell Technologies and Super Micro Computer have emerged at the center of that transformation as demand for AI-capable hardware surges worldwide.
Dell shares have now more than doubled in value since the start of the year, vastly outperforming the broader S&P 500, which has gained roughly 10.5% over the same period.
The rally spread across the broader AI hardware sector Friday morning.
Shares of Super Micro Computer climbed more than 10%, while Hewlett Packard Enterprise surged over 23% as investors poured into companies seen as key suppliers of the infrastructure powering artificial intelligence systems.
The sharp moves reflected growing confidence that the AI investment cycle remains in its early stages and could continue driving unprecedented spending across the semiconductor and enterprise computing industries for years.
For the latest quarter, Dell reported revenue of $43.84 billion, representing an 88% increase from a year earlier and easily surpassing analyst expectations of $35.43 billion.
The company described the period as the strongest quarter in its history, citing exceptional demand for AI-optimized servers and enterprise systems.
Investors have increasingly focused on companies supplying the physical backbone of artificial intelligence after years in which software firms dominated technology market gains.
The rise of generative AI platforms has created enormous demand for high-powered computing systems capable of processing vast amounts of data, leading major corporations and cloud providers to accelerate purchases of advanced servers and graphics processors.
That trend has significantly benefited manufacturers tied closely to Nvidia Corporation’s AI chips, which have become the industry standard for training and operating large-scale artificial intelligence models.
Dell’s results also suggested that concerns about supply chain bottlenecks and component shortages may be easing as companies improve manufacturing capacity and logistics operations to meet soaring demand.
The strong earnings report arrives at a time when investors are increasingly debating whether the AI-driven rally in technology stocks can continue at its current pace.
So far, Dell’s performance has strengthened the argument among bullish investors that the artificial intelligence infrastructure boom still has substantial room to grow, especially as corporations worldwide continue pouring billions of dollars into AI development and cloud expansion.
Market analysts say future earnings from major chipmakers, cloud providers and server manufacturers will be closely watched for signs that demand remains strong enough to justify the extraordinary valuations now attached to many AI-related stocks.
For now, however, Dell’s blockbuster quarter has provided one of the clearest signals yet that the artificial intelligence spending wave continues to reshape the technology industry at remarkable speed.
