ALBANY – State Assemblywoman Paula Kay (D, Rock Hill) called the State Public Service Commission’s temporary rate increase for NYSEG customers “just wrong!”
The action comes as the state agency and the utility continue to come to a more definitive rate plan in the future.
Kay is an intervenor in the ongoing NYSEG and parent company RG&E rate case.
She said the Public Service Commission “made a poor decision at a time when people are choosing between paying their electric bill and buying food.” And she said the PSC members are not acting in the best interests of the public.
“I have long advocated against any rate increases because of the economic stress my constituents are already under,” Kay said.
The lawmaker said the temporary increase will represent a 0.2 percent increase for Sullivan County customers “and while that is far lower than the proposed increase, I’ll continue to use my role as an intermediary in the rate case and as a legislator to fight to make utilities more manageable for families who sure need a break right now.”
