MONTICELLO – While Sullivan County continues to explore a site for a gateway housing project for the homeless, the number of those in temporary housing has declined.
Catherine Scott, chairwoman of the Health and Human Services Committee, said the latest statistics bear that out.
“At Social Services, our team has made amazing strides in decreasing our emergency shelter census. We have been at or over 300 consistently, but now down to 261 total,” she said. “They haven’t just worked on getting people out of the hotels, but they have worked on getting them permanent housing.”
