Spain’s High Court has acquitted Colombian pop superstar Shakira of tax fraud allegations and ordered Spanish tax authorities to reimburse her more than 60 million euros, including fines previously paid and accumulated interest.

According to the court ruling, the decision clears the internationally known singer of accusations linked to alleged unpaid taxes during the years under investigation. The court also instructed Spain’s Treasury to return the substantial amount already collected from Shakira as part of the legal proceedings.

The case had drawn global attention for years, becoming one of the most high-profile celebrity tax disputes in Europe. Spanish prosecutors had accused Shakira of failing to pay taxes while allegedly residing in Spain for extended periods. Authorities argued that the singer should have been considered a Spanish tax resident during the time in question, making her liable for millions in taxes on worldwide income.

Shakira consistently denied wrongdoing throughout the investigation and maintained that her primary residence during the disputed period was outside Spain. Her legal team argued that she complied with tax obligations and challenged the government’s interpretation of her residency status.

The High Court’s acquittal marks a major legal victory for the singer, whose career spans decades of international success in music, entertainment, and business. The ruling also brings an end to a lengthy legal battle that generated widespread media coverage and intense public scrutiny.

The refund order, valued at more than 60 million euros, includes penalties and payments previously made during the dispute, along with additional interest. The financial reimbursement represents one of the most significant outcomes in a celebrity tax case in recent years.

Spain has aggressively pursued tax investigations involving high-profile athletes, entertainers, and public figures over the past decade. Several international celebrities and football stars have faced accusations related to residency declarations and unpaid taxes while living in the country. These cases have often sparked debate about how tax authorities handle wealthy public figures and cross-border income.

Legal analysts say the court’s ruling in Shakira’s favor could influence future tax disputes involving residency status and international earnings. The decision may also intensify discussion about the complexity of tax laws affecting globally mobile celebrities and business figures.

Despite the legal challenges, Shakira has remained one of the world’s most influential Latin music artists, known for hit songs, global tours, and major cultural impact across multiple generations. The acquittal removes a major legal burden from the singer and could help restore focus to her music career and future projects.
