GOSHEN – A New Windsor man was sentenced in Orange County Court on Tuesday to 10 years in prison followed by five years of post-release supervision on a charge of attempted assault in connection with the stabbing of a male relative back on January 2, 2025.
Khiyan Bascus, 23, allegedly approached the sleeping relative and repeatedly stabbed him with several knives without provocation, thus waking him up during the attack.
The victim suffered stab wounds to his face and chest and required surgery.
After the stabbing, Bascus fled but was found by police in the backyard of a nearby home with blood on his hands.
A knife and clothing believed to have been used in the attack were recovered from an area Bascus was believed to have tossed them.
At a plea proceeding, he admitted that he stabbed the man.
District Attorney David Hoovler said Bascus’ conduct deserves the significant sentence. “Domestic violence has life-changing consequences for victims such as the one in this case.”
He urged all victims of domestic violence to come forward and to know that there are resources and support available to them from his office and agencies like Fearless? Hudson Valley.
