SOUTHEAST- Mother’s Day got off to an auspicious start in Putnam County on Saturday when a community drum circle offered heartfelt space to honor not only mothers but the powerful feminine energy that lives within us all.

The Southeast Cultural Arts Coalition organized the event at the Studio Around the Corner in Brewster, where participants celebrated mothers’ qualities through rhythm, including intuition, compassion, creativity, and connection, which nurture humankind.

Organizer Joshua reminded those in attendance that drum circles were rooted in a “long tradition of communal music-making that fosters unity, expression, and belonging.”

The multidisciplinary artist, musician, and shamanic energy healer whose work spans visual art, performance, music, community arts, and teaching recently visited his ancestral homeland of Nigeria when he renewed his commitment to drumming as a powerful practice for building community and sharing meaning.
