The federal government has officially launched a new public portal dedicated to unidentified aerial phenomena, marking one of the largest government transparency efforts involving UFO records in modern American history.

The website, WAR.GOV/UFO, was unveiled by the U.S. Department of War as part of a Trump administration directive ordering the declassification and release of government-held files tied to UFOs, extraterrestrial investigations, and what officials now refer to as Unidentified Anomalous Phenomena, or UAPs.

According to the Department of War, the initiative involves coordination between multiple federal agencies, including the Office of the Director of National Intelligence, NASA, the FBI, and the Pentagon’s All-domain Anomaly Resolution Office, commonly known as AARO.

Officials describe the effort as an “unprecedented, historic undertaking” involving the review and declassification of tens of millions of government records spanning decades.

The site currently contains declassified videos, military reports, photographs, intelligence documents, astronaut observations, and unresolved incident files connected to sightings around the world, including incidents reported near Japan, Greece, Iraq, the United Arab Emirates, and within U.S. airspace.

One of the most talked-about documents involves reports from Apollo 17 astronauts describing unexplained bright fragments and flashing lights observed near the moon during the 1972 mission. Images released alongside the records show unusual formations photographed during the mission, although officials say no definitive conclusions have been reached.

President Donald Trump previously announced he would direct federal agencies to begin identifying and releasing government information connected to “alien and extraterrestrial life” and UFO-related investigations.

Secretary of War Pete Hegseth stated the administration believes Americans deserve access to information that has remained hidden behind classifications for decades.

“The Department of War is in lockstep with President Trump to bring unprecedented transparency regarding our government’s understanding of Unidentified Anomalous Phenomena,” Hegseth said in the release.

Despite the explosive public interest, officials cautioned that the released materials do not confirm extraterrestrial life or alien contact. Many incidents remain unresolved simply because investigators lacked enough data to determine what was observed.

Former AARO officials and defense analysts have repeatedly warned that many sightings can ultimately be explained by advanced aircraft, sensor distortions, atmospheric conditions, drones, or classified military technology.

Still, the launch of WAR.GOV/UFO has reignited public fascination surrounding decades of government secrecy tied to UFO investigations dating back to programs such as Project Blue Book and Cold War-era military intelligence operations.

The Pentagon says additional files will continue to be released on a rolling basis over the coming weeks as more documents complete the declassification process.
