HAVERSTRAW – Weekend service will resume on the Haverstraw-Ossining Ferry beginning on May 23, with the ferries timed to connect at Ossining with trains to and from New York City.
The schedules will remain in effect through Saturday, October 31.
The ferry will operate hourly service between 11:23 a.m. and 9:10 p.m. on weekends.
Similar to the first two years of weekend service, ferries will not operate on Memorial Day, or Labor Day, but will operate on Independence Day.
Rockland County Executive Ed Day will combine with the county’s Transport Rockland weekend ferry connection bus, to provide travelers the opportunity to “cross the beautiful Hudson to the Landing at Hudson Bay and from there, discover all that Rockland has to offer, including our charming river towns and shops, fairs and festivals, scenic trails, local eateries, and more – all just 30 miles from New York City.”
“This is exactly the kind of service that makes a difference to people,” said Westchester County Executive Ken Jenkins. “The return of weekend ferry service gives residents a simple, reliable way to move between Westchester and Rockland while also making it easier to enjoy the Hudson River and everything around it.”
The now-defunct Newburgh-Beacon Ferry tried summer weekend service for a couple of years, but experienced low ridership.
The entire Newburgh-Beacon Ferry service was terminated at the beginning of this year because of low ridership. Metro-North Railroad, which offered Newburgh area residents an alternative means to reach to Beacon railroad station, cancelled the service all together early this year because of availability of the Newburgh-Beacon Bridge and dedicated bus service.
