Ambassador Monica Crowley, who currently serves as chief of protocol at the State Department, praised her role in the Trump administration during a Wednesday Breitbart News policy event, describing it as the “best job in all of Washington, D.C.”
Speaking with Breitbart News Washington Bureau Chief Matthew Boyle, Crowley reflected on the moment President Donald Trump personally called to offer her the high-profile diplomatic position. According to Crowley, the conversation quickly became even more significant when Trump revealed that the role would include additional responsibilities tied to some of the biggest international events set to take place during his second term.
“The President did call me and nominated me for this,” Crowley recalled during the event. “He said, ‘Monica, I really want you to be chief of protocol for the United States.’ And I said, ‘Thank you so much, sir. This is the greatest hour of my life, of course!’ Then he said, ‘Oh, wait, there’s more.’”
Crowley explained that beyond overseeing diplomatic protocol and coordinating official visits from foreign leaders, Trump also asked her to serve as the administration’s representative for several major international and national celebrations hosted by the United States in the coming years.
Those events include America’s 250th birthday celebration, the upcoming FIFA World Cup, and the 2028 Summer Olympic Games in Los Angeles. The responsibilities place Crowley at the center of some of the most globally watched moments expected to unfold during Trump’s presidency.
In June 2025, Crowley was formally announced as the principal media representative for America 250, the congressionally authorized commission tasked with organizing and promoting events surrounding the nation’s semiquincentennial celebration.
The FIFA World Cup, which will be jointly hosted by the United States, Canada, and Mexico, is scheduled to take place from June 11 through July 19 and will feature matches across 11 major U.S. cities. Meanwhile, the 2028 Summer Olympics in Los Angeles will mark the first Olympic Games hosted in the United States since 2002.
Crowley described taking on such a broad range of national and international duties as both exciting and deeply meaningful.
“It has been absolutely fantastic, extraordinary,” she said. “Every day is the greatest adventure.”
She added that she views her position not simply as a government appointment, but as an opportunity to represent the American people on the world stage.
“I take great pride in being America’s ambassador,” Crowley said.
Before joining the administration, Crowley built a long career in politics, media, and publishing. A New York Times bestselling author, she first gained national attention while serving as an assistant to late President Richard Nixon. She later authored two books reflecting on her experiences and insights from working alongside Nixon during the final years of his life.
Reflecting on nearly a year in her current role, Crowley said the experience has exceeded her expectations and expressed gratitude to Trump for entrusting her with such visible responsibilities.
“Now that I’ve been in this position for just about a year, I can honestly tell you, I do have the best job in all of Washington, D.C.,” she said. “I’m extremely grateful to President Trump for thinking of me for this position, for his confidence in me to do it, and to serve him, his administration, and his agenda.”
Crowley concluded by emphasizing that serving both the administration and the American people has been one of the greatest honors of her career.
“Serving the American people really is a blessing,” she added.
