Ron DeSantis signed a new congressional map into law Monday, finalizing a redistricting plan expected to reshape Florida’s representation in Congress after recent legal developments at the federal level.
In a statement shared on social media, DeSantis wrote “Signed, Sealed, and Delivered,” in a post on X, accompanied by an image of the finalized district map.
The updated boundaries were approved days earlier by the state legislature, according to a report, after lawmakers were called into a special session to revise district lines.
The move follows a decision by the U.S. Supreme Court involving a Louisiana redistricting case, in which justices ruled against the use of race-based criteria under Section 2 of the Voting Rights Act when drawing congressional districts.
Florida’s action is part of a broader response across the South. Louisiana has begun its own redrawing process, while Alabama, Mississippi, and Tennessee are also moving toward similar adjustments in their congressional maps.
State officials indicated the new Florida map is expected to produce several districts that lean Republican, though the exact impact will be determined in upcoming election cycles as candidates compete under the revised boundaries.
