WEST HAVERSTRAW -An overnight fire in a long-vacant textile factory on Samsondale Avenue in West Haverstraw destroyed the 300-foot by 70 foot structure.
Some 80 firefighters from eight departments battled the blaze that broke out at around 11:20 p.m. Sunday, said First Assistant West. Haverstraw Chief Michael Fenner.,
“When we showed up, it was a fully involved building with flames shooting 30 feet in the sky. “We went into defensive motive right away because we know this was an o0ld building with multiple collapses. We didn’t want to risk anyone’s safety, so we went defense right away,” he said.
There were no injuries and the cause is under investigation.
