Up to 600 communist groups and other radical organizations with ties to Democratic-aligned activist networks are mobilizing across the United States ahead of May Day, according to a new report from Fox News Digital.
The outlet reports that its investigation uncovered what it describes as a vast and coordinated protest infrastructure — a network of organizations with a combined annual revenue of approximately $2 billion. According to the report, these groups are planning roughly 3,000 protests, rallies, and public demonstrations nationwide, promoting what the outlet characterizes as an “anti-American agenda.”
Organizers are urging Americans to participate in what amounts to a one-day general strike, encouraging people to skip work, avoid school, and refrain from shopping as part of the coordinated effort.
The Origins of May Day
May Day, also known as International Workers’ Day, dates back to the late 19th century. The event was formally established in 1890 to commemorate workers killed during labor demonstrations in Chicago in 1886. Over time, it became associated worldwide with labor activism, workers’ rights movements, and, in some countries, socialist and communist political traditions.
In the United States, May Day events have historically ranged from peaceful labor marches to more politically charged protests tied to broader ideological causes.
Groups Behind the Mobilization
According to the Fox News Digital investigation, the current May Day mobilization is being spearheaded by a network of far-left organizations, including chapters of the Democratic Socialists of America, along with activist groups such as the People’s Forum, the Party for Socialism and Liberation, the ANSWER Coalition, and Code Pink.
The report also alleges that some of these organizations have received financial backing from American-born tech businessman Neville Roy Singham, who is based in Shanghai. Fox News Digital claims that certain affiliated groups promote narratives aligned with the Chinese Communist Party, though those groups have previously described their work as focused on anti-war and anti-imperialist advocacy.
Additional organizations reportedly mobilizing supporters include the Communist Party USA, which has circulated messaging urging workers to “rise against MAGA on May Day.” Its publication, People’s World, has distributed leaflets promoting labor activism and opposition to conservative policies.
Meanwhile, the Revolutionary Communist Party USA has called for dismantling what it describes as the “capitalist-imperialist system,” and the Maoist Communist Union has encouraged members to join an “Anti-Imperialist Contingent” in New York City demonstrations.
Democratic Party Ties Raise Concerns
Unlike previous decades, the report claims that certain Democratic-aligned activist networks are increasingly coordinating or associating with May Day efforts. Among the organizations mentioned are Indivisible, MoveOn, and the American Federation of Teachers, as well as several state and local Democratic Party chapters, including the California Democratic Party.
Protests and events are reportedly scheduled in Washington, D.C., Chicago, and more than two dozen additional cities across the country. One notable location mentioned is Indio, California — home to the annual Coachella Valley Music and Arts Festival — where demonstrations are expected to coincide with heightened public attention.
Some Democratic strategists have expressed concern about the party’s perceived proximity to more radical activist factions.
Melissa DeRosa, a Democratic strategist, warned that aligning too closely with socialist or explicitly communist groups could alienate moderate voters.
“The increasing willingness of mainstream Democrats to align with extremist socialist groups is a major factor in why the Democratic Party is losing the center more and more, and why so many lifelong Democrats find themselves feeling politically homeless,” DeRosa told Fox News Digital.
She added that while May Day has “a proud history of honoring workers,” she believes some organizations have allowed that tradition to be overtaken by what she called “the activist fringe.”
Supporters of the May Day demonstrations, however, argue that the events are focused on workers’ rights, economic justice, and opposition to what they see as corporate overreach and inequality.
As May Day approaches, the nationwide mobilization is shaping up to be one of the largest coordinated protest efforts in recent years — underscoring deep political divisions over labor policy, economic systems, and the direction of the Democratic Party.
